VTP merupakan suatu protokol untuk mengenalkan sekelompok VLAN ke semua switch client, artinya semua vlan yang di daftarkan di switch server maka akan di update di switch client. Tujuannya yaitu agar konfigurasi VLAN lebih stabil di semua switch. Intinya sih agar admin gak konfig satu-satu semua VLAN yang ada di setiap switch, cukup dengan konfig di VTP server maka VLAN akan ter advertise ke semua switch yang mode nya VTP client, efesiensi waktu sob supaya lebih cepat konfig nya.. hehe
Ada tiga VTP mode
- VTP server, mode ini dapat membuat, merubah dan menghapus VLAN, memforward VTP update serta memproses VTP update yang di terima nya.
- VTP transparent, mode ini bersifat independent, apabila dia membuat VLAN atau merubah VLAN maka hanya berlaku hanya untuk switch tersebut saja tidak di advertise ke swirch-switch yang lain, dan hanya memforward VTP update yang di terima nya, namun tidak memproses ke VLAN database nya, sifatnya hanya menereuskan saja.
- VTP Client, mode ini tidak bisa membuat VLAN, hanya memproses VLAN yang diterima melalui VTP update yang dikirimkan oleh VTP server

Network VLAN 10 dan 20 dapat berkomunikasi sedangkan ke network VLAN 30 tidak dapat berkomunikasi dikarenakan pada SW1 di set VTP transparent yang sifat nya independent, tidak advertise ke switch-switch yang lain.
